Michael Fox Thanks Citizens of Aspen

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Dear Aspen Club Family,

Tuesday night was a pretty incredible ending to yet another stage of our amazing journey together. The Aspen Club Living project was approved by Aspen City Council with a 3-1 vote.  This final step was the culmination of almost three years of hard work and we cannot be more excited for what’s to come in the future.

Over the past three years, we have had extensive talks with neighbors and members, spent hundreds of hours working with our fantastic city staff, architects, planners and with the various city departments including transportation, engineering, traffic and parks. In May 2008, we were granted conceptual approval at Planning & Zoning, which led to conceptual approval at City Council in July of 2008 and final approval at P&Z in October of 2009. After three years of working with the community, we have put together a project that is better today than it was when we began- a testament to the city staff, the P&Z committee, our council and all of you.

As most of you know, Aspen Club Living combines the skills and talents we currently have on the Aspen Club Team with a residential component so that, in addition to all the programs and benefits we provide our current members and guests, we can host more in-depth programs on health and performance.  Aspen Club Living includes extensive upgrades to the Club itself that will ensure our ongoing position as a premier, state-of-the-art health and fitness center.  Planned improvements include remodeled Club interiors, a new pool, new exercise studios, updated locker rooms with new hot tubs and steam rooms, the most advanced exercise equipment, additional classes and advanced programming.

The proposed project, Aspen Club Living, will add 20 residential units, sold in fractions so that they are occupied throughout the year. The project will also add 12 affordable housing units-150% of the required mitigation- to the upgraded Club facilities.  In addition, this will be the first project in the country to combine sustainable green development with a holistic health focus to create a healthy living community.

The Aspen Club of the future will be something very special within Aspen specifically because it will be at the forefront of mind, body and spirit- a vision that Aspen continues to embody through you, the members of its community.

As I mentioned in my last letter, I am still awed and humbled by the wonderful support given to me and the project as we have gone through this process. Thank you!  Without you, I am not sure the project would be what it has become today.

While the start of any construction is a long way away, we will begin making upgrades to the Club this summer.  Now that we have more clarity on the future of the Club, we can start moving on some of the decisions that we have put on hold in the past few months.  We will have more updates on the specific improvements this June and throughout the summer.

The Aspen Club is a special place and I look forward to working with you and our team to continue to improve it now, and into the future with Aspen Club Living.

All the Best,

Michael
