My First Wellness Session was Amazing
Kim’s goal: 20/20/2 before 40. Lose 20 lbs. in 20 weeks and compete in 2 triathalon sprints before my 40th birthday on September 22.
For me, the hardest part of a big goal is breaking it down so it makes sense and seems ‘do-able’. I was really nervous going in to my first wellness session with Dirk. I’ve let myself down so many times! I start with great intentions and after a few weeks I’m off-track; sound familiar?!
When I decided to work with Dirk as my coach, he gave me some intake forms including a ‘wellness wheel’; a contract; and a values clarification exercise. The ‘wellness wheel’ is an opportunity to assess my life in all areas-then connect the dots to see how smoothly the wheel would roll. The values exercise was valuable for me to be able to see how some things like discipline and integrity are most important to me. But, by far, the most valuable piece was one particular line in the contract; the committment to ’see my goal through’. I knew at that point my experience was going to be different this time!
The next challenge Dirk gave me was to envision myself as a very fit; much lighter ‘triathalete’? I couldn’t see it clearly and committed to getting that vision clear in my head and heart. I vowed to practice saying “I am a tri-athlete” to myself and maybe even to someone else (ok, maybe just to my mirror for now).
My committment for week 1:
1. 5 workouts - 3-2 hour workouts; 2 shorter workouts (bring them outsider weather permitting).
2. food journal
3. Buy ‘real’ running shoes at the ‘real’ running store.
4. Get more clear on (and embrace?) the vision of my dream; what will it really be like on Sept. 22 and for the rest of my life?
I am very grateful and excited about this opportunity! My purpose for my life is to inspire change for others. I can do this even more authentically and powerfully when I am in integrity with a larger vision for myself.
