Michael Fox was unable to attend last night but here are his words for “Michaels Angels”

My Dearest Amanda, Leah and Kasie,

I am sorry I am not able to be with you in Aspen tonight. If I was there, I would be able to tell you how proud I am of all of you. I would be able to tell you how in awe of I am of all of you. I would be able to tell you how inspired I am by all of you.

Ostensibly we are all here tonight to celebrate your individual journeys and to raise money and awareness for your ongoing stem cell therapy. This is all true and yet through your magnificent examples, we are also here for our own personal inspiration. We are here to remind ourselves of the multitude of possibilities in our own lives. We are here to remind ourselves that the naysayers, though plentiful in each of our lives, are rarely ever right. We are here to remind ourselves that what seems impossible is actually within our reach.

In this night, I hope that we will help each of you in you quest. In doing so, it will help each of us in our own individual quests. That is the amazing paradox at work here. We came here to help you, but in reality, you are truly helping us.

To keep this short, I want to finish up with one last thought . . . We love you, we believe in you and we are with you!

With Love and Admiration,

Michael

Amanda Boxtel update

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

amanda-boxtel.jpg amanda-boxtel-1.jpg

Let nothing perturb you, nothing frighten you.  All things pass.

God does not change.  Patience achieves everything.

–Mother Teresa

I am keeping strong, holding my vision, continuing with my yoga practice, meditation, and physical therapy…and practicing walking in my leg braces.  Sometimes it’s really tough, I sweat, cry, and I wonder about the future…but I push on regardless keeping my faith and hope.  I am not afraid.  I am living my dream.  My legs are continuing to get stronger and my body is coming alive.

Thank you to those who offered housing for my Korean healers.  Long-time Challenge Aspen supporters Rusty and Nona Jones have graciously donated their two-bedroom condo in Snowmass Village for the week of August 10-17.  It will be an intense and exciting week of energy work and oriental healing—eight hours per day for seven days straight.  I will continue to create the divine foundation for my embryonic stem cells to gestate in my body and restore function to my limbs.  Thank you to my “anonymous” friends who have helped fund Dr. Choe and Dr. Jung’s visit.  I am so very grateful.

I am leaving no stone unturned.

Sending so much love, gratitude, and healing light,

Amanda (and Tucker too J) xoxo

Leah update

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

(just a reminder Leah will be one of our special guests on Tuesday Aug 12th for Tuesday with Michael)

Dear Friends and Family,

Day 89 – Somewhere in the middle of July 15th.

The 3 month stay at NuTech Mediworld and my first human embryonic stem cell treatment has come to an end. As I type I am sitting on the plane, bound for Chicago, in anticipation of arriving back on American soil. What an intense, to say the least, experience I have been given. Out of my comfort zone and trying to defy all odds and obstacles that have been put in front of me in order to regain my body and enhance our knowledge of stem cell therapy. With love and gratitude I wonder how to express my sincerest thanks to all my supporters, especially my caretakers. Without Danno, Buffy, Sherry, and Maria the trip as the procedures would have never been possible. They gave freely of themselves, picking me up when my spirits were down, holding me tight when the pain was unbearable and reassuring me I WAS strong enough to continue on…..

Stepping off the plane and into the fresh mountain air; Aspen was better than I could have possibly imagined with the sun shinning, a slight breeze and absolutely no humidity. It really is paradise, heaven on earth, even better… It’s my home. Elizabeth and Tom were at the airport to greet me, help with the luggage and escort me to my apartment. All smiles, lots of hugs and news of the latest happenings around town. Ed was waiting on the patio as we pulled into the apartment complex and the welcoming crew was complete. A BBQ with fresh kabob veggies, a bit of salmon, a slice of tuna, and some flank steak we ate and caught up, picking up right where we left off in April. This time there was just a lot less snow talk and plans to go full moon rafting/camping on the weekend. My girls Mayday and Daisy joined the party staying close to my side all evening. A nice homecoming as friends dropped by throughout the night. I fought to keep my eyes open. Can anyone say jet laggggged? I’ve never been so jet lagged. I’m unsure of the date, unsure of the time. I must sleep… I guess I will listen to my body and go with this crazy sleep schedule, until I can get back into a routine. I figure at some point I will wake up feeling good and normal again.

Improvements After 88 Days of Stem Cell Therapy

1.Posture is straighter/ more erect
2.Total body is stronger
3.Better balance
4.Rt. knee no longer snaps into hyperextension. Still goes into hyper but not as bad.
5.Rt. hand is soft
6.Able to extend RT fingers
7.Toes- I can differentiate movements between extension and flexion.
8.Toes are moving
9.Ankle rotation is slight but better
10.Ankle moves inward and outward slightly but better
11.Stronger in yoga poses
12.Lungs are stronger
13.RT hamstring stronger. Can move against gravity with weight.
14.Less spasms in overall body
15.Don’t take as much medicine/ bacelophen (1 bacelophen a day instead of 4).
16.Better proper gait with weight shifting
17.Hips are more even

There has been many changes in my life; some instantly unexpected, some just unexpected, some planned and then re-planned, no matter how the changes come about, I believe everything happens for a reason. I just hope I learn to read the signs, remain true to my self, relax, and as always enjoy the ride. Here’s to the future… Whatever it may be.

Thanks for the many emails of love, support and encouragement along the way. This journey is one to remember, an experience that has no end or boundaries. With mind, brain, body and soul; I take a deep breath as I dare to push on dreaming big.
Blog updates to continue, as the stem cells continue to grow and form in my body.

With Love and healing light,
Leah

Be a Dream Girl

Friday, February 8th, 2008

We live in a high-speed, instant-access, digital-download culture that puts fast sex, revealing clothes, loosening moral values, and rude behaviors on a pedestal, while the things that used to matter—kindness, understanding, compassion, and mutual respect—are forced to take a back seat. The messages girls receive in today’s world about their roles and worth in society is part of the problem. The technology that is supposed to be connecting teens is disconnecting them from any central core of stable values. It’s harder than ever for a teenage girl to find her way and create healthy, respectful relationships in today’s anything-goes world.

Girls today are subjected to the effects of misogynistic lyrics in some hip-hop songs, music videos with  “boobalicious, bootylicious babes”, video games where players get more points for having sex with a girl then killing her, degrading Internet porn that is just a mouse click away for free, and magazine headlines that tell girls the only way to a guy’s heart is through his zipper.

Supporting all that lies technology—cell phones, iPhones, instant messaging, text messaging, MySpace, etc. Yes, they’re all convenient and fun ways to communicate, but they also create a whole new set of problems because miscommunication, and the hard feelings that  go hand in hand with that hurts girls. Many of these technologies and social networking websites are also the breeding grounds for bullying and a lot of trauma and drama that girls must endure without knowing the real costs they are paying in terms of health, vitality and well-being.

Corporations and the media are another part of the problem. They study teens and create marketing and advertising programs designed to make girls feel like the only way they can attract a guy is through their looks and sexuality. It’s hard to know what love and respect truly look like in a world that has become so disrespectful to young women. It’s too easy for girls to end up in unhealthy relationships that hinder moving into adulthood with the necessary tools to succeed.

Dr. Leigh, known to her teen audience as simply Dr. Jenn, was concerned that there was little information for girls about how to combat the daily negative messages they were receiving. She began studying teen culture and relationships a decade ago when the first of her own four children stepped over into the teen years. She has written a self-help guide for teen girls: Laid or loved? The Secrets Guys Wish Girls Knew About Being a Dream Girl Instead of a Just-in-His-Jeans Girl. The book, due out next month, reveals the tools to managing all the new technological impacts on teens, the cultural shifts, as well as the media messages, so that girls can learn how to have self-respect and show respect to others. Real stories and quotes from guys from around the world underscore the powerful message that being a Dream Girl really is a key to present and future happiness and success.

The seminar, “Be a Dream Girl,” is based on the new book. It provides an emotionally safe place for teen girls to learn more about who they really are, what they really want, how to listen to themselves and others, as well as the current trends that keep them from experiencing true happiness, success and healthy relationships.

This highly interactive seminar promises to be life changing. Each girl will receive a prepublication copy of Laid or Loved? Two sessions are available to choose from on February 16th at the Aspen Club. For more information or to register please call Dr. Jenn at 650-892-4927 or email her at: jennifer@drjennscoaching.com.

Dr. Jenn is now seeing teen clients for coaching, as well as building Creative Play rooms in client’s homes who want their children to grow more neural connections in their brains for happiness, problem solving and success in life.

Top Ten Valentine’s Places for Romance

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

LOS ANGELES, Feb 05, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Adventuregirl.com’s Stefanie Michaels releases her 2008 list of Valentine’s Day Top Ten Global Places for Romance.

Michaels’ top 10 picks include:

The Kahala Resort – Honolulu’s social address for glamorous events. This exclusive retreat sits on its own private beach, just minutes from Waikiki. Let romance blossom with the Kahala Love Song package complete with dinner at world-famous Hoku’s restaurant.

Michaels applauds the Valen-time to go green at the new “Eco-Glam” Hyatt Key West Resort & Marina, with The Relaxation Package. The Jala Spa will make a $5 donation when guests book the Signature “Jalaja” treatment. Proceeds benefit the Reef Relief Organization.

Romance with a “touch” of adventure at Falaza – a luxury tented safari lodge in South Africa, located 3 hours north of Durban and neighboring the St. Lucia World Heritage Site, offering the Total Relaxation & Renewal Spa Experience in the middle of the African Bush.

Michaels loves the Cotton Tree Lodge – Belize’s newest eco-lodge, which is dedicating Valentine’s week to chocolate. Learn how to make chocolate from descendents of the indigenous Maya who still produce chocolate using traditional techniques.

Cotswold House, in Chipping Camden, England, presents a two-night stay in their luxe Montrose Suite, featuring huge limestone baths (big enough for two), a dinner at Hicks’ Brasserie, Valentine’s dinner in the elegant Juliana’s Restaurant and more love goodies upon arrival.

Warm hearts with the Powder Love Couple Package at Aspen, Colorado’s brand new Sky Hotel, which offers an in-room movie, two “high altitude” massages at the Aspen Club and Spa, and a Kama Sutra weekend couples kit, including the original oils of love – sweet almond oil, spearmint pleasure balm, and sweet honeysuckle honey dust.

Amore in the heart of Florence, Italy’s most romantic of hotels, Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy, with Romantic Renaissance – a 2-night package includes Champagne breakfast in bed, Italian chocolates, and to stir up more heat, “Passion” cocktails por due, at their L’Incontro Bar.

Red Hearts at Cambridge Beach in Bermuda, devoting all of February to romance and relationships – this all-inclusive, upscale resort boasts the Exclusive, Sensory Stimulating, Romance Package, including sunset sails, love seminars and workshops.

The Villagio Inn and Spa in Napa Valley is great for canoodling, notes Michaels, especially with the Couples Comfort Zone Escape. Guestrooms boast wood-burning fireplaces and oversized sunken bathtubs.

Rounding out Michaels’ top 10 is Sanctuary Villas and Apartments – offering a four-night package at the most romantic city on the planet, Paris. The St. Valentine’s Champagne package offers four nights at Boissy d’Anglas – an ultra-exclusive apartment situated in the 8th arrondissement, with private chauffeur and tour to Champagne de Telmont at Epernay in the Champagne region, complete with candlelit champagne cellar dinner.

Dear Aspen Community

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I am writing to thank everyone who participated in our very special 30th anniversary celebration we held at the Club this past Tuesday. The event which was called ‘Pursuing Possibilities’ as it benefited three extraordinary individuals in our community: Amanda Boxtel, Leah Roland and Kasie Burtard was a tremendous success.

at-the-bar.JPG  betty-hoops.JPG chef-clark-church.JPG dano-leah-dancing.JPG

Though the kindness and generosity of the over 600 people who attended, Amanda, Leah and Kasie, who each have spinal cord injuries, raised over $100,000 of their $224,000 goal to allow them to travel to India and receive a promising stem cell therapy.

catherine-and-leah.JPG  hemit.JPG final-poker-table.JPG dr-brown.JPG

We hear a lot about how Aspen has lost its soul over the years. Those who attended the event on Tuesday know that the heart and soul of Aspen is very much alive and well.

hoops.JPG  hoops3.JPG kasie-and-tripp.JPG leahs-girls.JPG mark-and-amanda.JPG

Amanda, Leah and Kasie’s quest is a dramatic metaphor for the journey we are all on. We are a community dedicated to performance and achievement at all levels. Aspen has always had openness to non-traditional healthcare and the amazing height of human possibilities. In the thirty years the Club has been in business, many treatments that were once on the fringe of acceptability have now become mainstream.

chriss-daughter.JPG  party-goers.JPG sarah-and-casey.JPG rick.JPG

This fundraiser was more than helping a few deserving people in our community achieve a better life; it was about creating a better future for all of us, starting with these three early pioneers. Because of this, this event was important to all of us here at the Club and the larger Aspen community.

all-smiles.JPG  domi-nikki-sarah-amanda.JPG candy-shad-alina.JPG bo-and-bobby.JPG

I never cease to be awed at the caring, the generosity and the love in this community. Thank you all once again for helping us to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aspen Club and the timeless anniversary of human ingenuity and the boundlessness of the human spirit.

Sincerely,

Michael Fox CEO
