Post blogger Amanda Boxtel, co-founder of Challenge Aspen, is reporting amazing results during her trip to India for embryonic stem cell therapy. “I am ecstatic to report that I am the proud owner of a very strong hamstring in the left leg,” she blogs. “Yes, my lower left leg can now move backwards from the knee down to the foot on its own! This is a first!!!!! In fact, I feel my gluteus maximus beginning to kick in, along with other abdominal and leg muscles that haven’t felt alive for fifteen years…. The awareness in my lower limbs is strangely phenomenal—as if a little electrical current has been turned on filtering pins-and-needle tingles all the way to my toes.” Click here to read the full story

I have attached a letter from Amanda Boxtel that I want each of you to read. Amanda is one of the most amazing people I have ever met and someone I am honored to call a friend. Almost 15 years ago, Amanda was in a freak skiing accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down. She went on to start Challenge Aspen which has grown into a successful internationally recognized, non-profit organization that enables individuals with disabilities to recreate and realize their life potential. When we reopened the new Aspen Club in 1998 it was with a fundraiser for Challenge Aspen.
As Amanda describes in her letter, she is trying to embark on her life’s next journey, a novel stem cell procedure in India this summer. In the procedure embryonic stem cell cells taken from a human embryo are injected into her injury. Over seventy spinal cord injured individuals have shown radical success with regards to regaining bladder/bowel function; sensation; and muscle growth. It was a big decision for Amanda and one I want to be supportive of.
She is looking to raise $30,000 to pay for her trip and the procedure. Anyone who knows Amanda knows her cheerfulness, courage and determination. I want to do all we can to help her.
Thank you in advance.
All the Best,
Michael Fox
