Thanks to the dry altitude that is Colorado, I’ve noticed a considerable amount of “aging” around my eyes since moving here. Sure it’s due to some previous sun damage and maybe shedding a tear over the years, and the fact that I am (gasp) getting older, but there is help for dry skin around the eyes. The skin around our eyes is most definitely the thinnest on the face and is extremely delicate, making it more susceptible to the elements. Wrinkles, crowsfeet, dryness. What’s a girl to do? First off, applying sunscreen when outside is a must. Secondly, using a gentle exfoiliant can help slough off dead skin and make the area around the eye look less dry. In addition, there are great products out there to soften skin and help repair previous damage. Products with hydrauloic acid are great, like Aspen Essentials nourishing eye creme. Serums are also full of moisture and work wonders, try Gingko-Green Tea Eye serum. There’s also the old standby of putting cool, sliced cucumbers on your eyes for a rest, although this isn’t always convenient. Lastly, there’s Vitamin E. Pierce open a capsule and apply a small amount of liquid Vitamin E to the area around the eyes. With some regular treatment, taking care of our dry eyes can be a routine well worth it. And in the end, a few crowsfeet, twinkle eye wrinkles and laugh lines never hurt.

It wasn’t until later in life that I became ever present and concerned about my facial skin. Obviously the face is the most exposed part of the body to the elements, namely the sun and dry air. Take it a little deeper and think about the pollutants out there- dust, exhaust, and smoke. And don’t overlook nutrition. I once read that what we put into our bodies comes out, if you will, in our skin and hair. What we choose to nourish our cells with plays a big part in having healthy hair and radiant skin. Keeping hydrated also makes sense. So how about the stuff we can’t control? Skin products to the rescue! Where I used to use over the counter facial scrubs, or gasp, even soap to wash my face, I now only use natural skin products usually sold at spas or natural health stores. Sure they cost a bit more but the results are worth it! I use the Fruit Juice Glacial Cleanser from Skin Essentials every evening. For a deeper clean, about twice a week I’ll use the Alchemy magic mask or the Blueberry peel. I love these products, and as someone who is borderline “obsessive” about reversing the signs of aging, I highly recommend them to anyone with a face.

I usually use over the counter products for my skin, excluding my face. I am talking arms, legs etc. While certain brands are “okay” as an out of the shower lotion, I find they don’t give me that mositure-rich skin I am looking for, that last throughout the dry day.
The other day I tried the Moisturizing Body Whip with CoQ10 and antioxidants, and was amazed by the results. The smell is tangy and fresh, and my arms felt alive and luxurious. This “whip” is ultra dewy but non-greasy, light to the touch and really does the job of soaking into the skin and staying there. I felt really soft all day, like baby’s skin. I am looking forward to the next time I shave my legs (which is usually a dread) so I can soften them up immediatley with this product. Summer means shorts, so its time for soft supple legs.
I highly recommend Essentials Natural Skin Care products, specially designed for this altitude.

Hello all,
As you can see I was able to have the privilege of the Aspen Club and Spa set me up with a blog of my own. My trainer Tom spoke to Sarah about placing me in “People” magazine which is a once in a lifetime chance for me. Nothing exciting really ever happens in my life. So I figured ‘hey why not, this is my chance to show everyone that they too can be motivated by a “real” person. Not an actor or actress that just wants to lose 5-10 measly pounds.’ Since I was excited about the whole idea, Sarah also mentioned to me about a blog and how you all can keep track of my results and weight loss adventure through my 3 months in the Law Enforcement Academy. This Sunday I leave to set up my dorm room. I must say… this might be my longest 3 months ever. Aspen Club and Spa is very much like my second home. I will deeply miss all the staff members who are always smiling at me and my trainer Tom… who always says “okay, ready”, when I walk in for a good workout. I will be coming back on July 21 to do the 5K run/walk with my trainer in Aspen. We will most likely have lots to talk about. Every day I see him we always come up with something to either talk or joke about. I should set up a massage on Saturday before I head out for boot camp… HeHe…
Here is something for all of you:
Enjoy life to its’ fullest…live it day to day, not year to year.

I started using two of the products from Aspen Life Essentials over a month ago. The first being the fruit juice glacier cleanser I use it twice a day, once in the morning and right before I go to bed. I have very sensetive skin and a lot of times when I try a new product it may cause a break out, rash, and even dry spots. So needless to say I don’t do it often. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have a reaction, instead the fruit juice glacier cleanser left my skin feeling clean and bright.
I also use the magic alchemy masque twice a week, I leave it on for about 10 minutes each time. I love this product because it has changed my skin drastically. I always wanted to be able to go out on the town with little or no foundation, but because my skin is uneven and has red spots I haven’t felt comfortable to do so. This product has reduced my redness and the appearance of dry skin. Before I know it I will be able to leave my place with just a little bit of mascara and lip gloss. I can’t wait to try the rest of the line.

I have fond memories of a best girlfriend and I doing “primp and pamper” days when we would mess up the bathroom and go to town. Jars of creams came out, bubble baths frothed, we’d shave our legs, do our nails, put creams and masks on our face and then go giggle and gossip while the paint dried.
It’s been way too long since I endulged in something like that, so this weekend I put my hair in a knot on top of my head, sighed in the mirror at some subtle, but very present “age spots” and went to work. I used a citrus microbrasion cleanser…what a refreshing “wowza!” for my skin. I scrubbed under my eyes and could feel the dry skin dissolving, literally. Then I slathed on some nourshing day cream and left for the day. My skin felt quite cool and calm.
I admit it, I am a sucker for the sun, one of the biggest culprits known to dry and age the skin. Not to mention the dangers of skin cancer, yikes: I have vowed to try using a mositurizer with an SPF in it, but I haven’t committed fully yet.
After a long day out and about, doing what gals do, I was ready to wind down for the evening. Drenched from a heated yoga class, I used some fruit cleansing gel to wash up and then put on a mask of sorts, the Alchemy Magic mask by Skin Essentials. The directions said to leave on for 4-20 minutes, and after about 5 minutes I felt tingly, which can only mean something is working! After washing off the light, grainy scrub, my skin felt alive and new! Next came a rich, heavy night cream formulated just for sweet dreams and something special for the area around my eyes, which just drinks this stuff in. I went to bed and woke up feeling pretty darn good about taking care of my skin. I enjoyed my 2 day skin soiree very much, and resolved to keep it up.
Natural and specially formulated products with specific uses definitely make a difference.
