Exercise can be a great way to detoxify the system. When we sweat we release toxins and negative energy. Have you ever noticed if you have spent the night prior “over- imbibing”, the next day you might smell a faint smell of alcohol. If you workout you sweat out the liquor through your pores. Yoga, pilates and other alternative mat exercises that involve stretching and twisting are also great for releasing toxins. The inner organs are massaged and rinsed clean. Smoke, alcohol, unhealthy foods and even stress are considered toxins. Massage and acupunture are other ways to detoxify, getting rid of built up gunk and allowing fresh oxygen and blood into the body. To really clean out the system, try a recommended cleanse or diet, after consulting your physician. B Vitamins can help replenish the system if you haven’t been treating it so nicely. You can also try the steam bath. Happy detoxifying!

Tip #13 from Shape Magazine
Do a push up with your hands on a stability ball and your arms- even those stubborn triceps will work 30 percent harder than they would if you did the moves on the floor, according to a study at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Dirk, a personal trainer here at the Club will demonstrate
Get into push up position with your hands on top of a stability ball, legs extended on the floor (place the ball against a wall if you have trouble balancing). Lower your chest toward the ball, then press up. Do 2 sets of as many reps as possible, 3 times a week.

Many people don’t associate walking with exercise. Ah, but it is exercise, one of the greatest forms. You can walk anywhere. Up the steep steps at Red Rocks. On the treadmill at the club, who care’s that you aren’t going anywhere? Down the trails of your favorite hike. From the farthest parking spot in the mall to a store. Every step counts. Pump your arms a bit and hasten your step, and you’ve got a good heart rate going for some cardio. Put on some tunes or just people and nature watch.
My favorite walk these days involves going to the track. Not the track you’d see at a high school, but the track that is the loop around Washington Park. I like to go in the mornings when there is still mist coming off the lake, Canadian Geese flying overhead. Sure its a man made lake smack dab in the middle of a city park, but I’ll take it as it’s one minute from my apratment. There is a sense of beginning and end as I walk the loop, greeting others along the way-dog walkers, bikers, rollerbladers.
The walk is not the same every time, as there are different things on my mind and the landscape changes daily. I find walking is also therapeutic; I discuss the upcoming day in my head as my feet lighlty pound the gravel. After a good 3-4 times around, depending on my energy that day, I feel stiff-in a good way. A few stretches and I am good to go. I love the fact that I’ve just exercised, too. Mind and body, what a deal.
I recommend a walk a day, wherever it may be.

Hello all,
As you can see I was able to have the privilege of the Aspen Club and Spa set me up with a blog of my own. My trainer Tom spoke to Sarah about placing me in “People” magazine which is a once in a lifetime chance for me. Nothing exciting really ever happens in my life. So I figured ‘hey why not, this is my chance to show everyone that they too can be motivated by a “real” person. Not an actor or actress that just wants to lose 5-10 measly pounds.’ Since I was excited about the whole idea, Sarah also mentioned to me about a blog and how you all can keep track of my results and weight loss adventure through my 3 months in the Law Enforcement Academy. This Sunday I leave to set up my dorm room. I must say… this might be my longest 3 months ever. Aspen Club and Spa is very much like my second home. I will deeply miss all the staff members who are always smiling at me and my trainer Tom… who always says “okay, ready”, when I walk in for a good workout. I will be coming back on July 21 to do the 5K run/walk with my trainer in Aspen. We will most likely have lots to talk about. Every day I see him we always come up with something to either talk or joke about. I should set up a massage on Saturday before I head out for boot camp… HeHe…
Here is something for all of you:
Enjoy life to its’ fullest…live it day to day, not year to year.

Isn’t it amazing how life keeps coming at ya. It can become a bit overwhelming at times dealing with the issues in one’s life. I find that when you are in the heat of the moment it is best to take a step back and look at the big picture.
In doing so, I find that a workout helps you regain focus on a situation. It allows you time to take your mind off that circumstance and concentrate on what is in front of you. A barbell, a jog, that next rep or pushing yourself further than your last workout. The adrenaline kicks in and the blood starts pumping.
Next time life throws you a curve ball step back take a break and hit the gym. You’ll be amazed how you find solutions to problems that you couldn’t before you got some exercise.
