Detoxifying

Exercise can be a great way to detoxify the system. When we sweat we release toxins and negative energy. Have you ever noticed if you have spent the night prior “over- imbibing”, the next day you might smell a faint smell of alcohol. If you workout you sweat out the liquor through your pores. Yoga, pilates and other alternative mat exercises that involve stretching and twisting are also great for releasing toxins. The inner organs are massaged and rinsed clean.  Smoke, alcohol, unhealthy foods and even stress are considered toxins. Massage and acupunture are other ways to detoxify,  getting rid of built up gunk and allowing fresh oxygen and blood into the body.  To really clean out the system, try a recommended cleanse or diet, after consulting your physician. B Vitamins can help replenish the system if you haven’t been treating it so nicely.  You can also try the steam bath. Happy detoxifying!

Ode to the Banana

This morning I eyed the bananas on top of my fridge, they were donning spots of brown, and I knew they would never make it anywhere in life except into the garbage can. But then I remembered I could make banana bread or mash them into a spice cake I sometimes (ok, rarely) make. The point is I had committed to saving their short lives.  Didn’t want to toss em. I am one who buys them as green as possible and I usually eat one a day.  I live by the revised saying, with all due respect to the apple, “A banana a day keeps the you know who away”…I began this ritual a few years ago when we were enlightened that our bodies needed more fruits and vegetables, but 5 of each a day? Thats a whopper of an order. But I can handle 3-5 servings,  give or take, of whatever is in the fridge or on the fridge. I like fruits and vegetables. And they are good for you-Your friendly banana is rich in potassium, but did you know it also comtains B Vitamins-thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, B6, and folic acid. On the mineral side there is calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.  Another great thing is that bananas are easy on the digestive system. Sounds good to me.  Now, do I have eggs in the fridge to make that cake?

Avoiding Folic Acid Deficiency With Vitamin B Supplement

By Rich Fuller

Studies conducted by the University of Maryland Medical Center show that folic acid deficiency is the biggest problem for those lacking in vitamin B. If you are lacking in folic acid it can cause you to experience stunted growth, mental sluggishness and breathing difficulties to name a few.

A deficiency in folic acid also showed signs of causing growth problems, swelling of the tongue, gum disease, poor appetite, gastroenteritis, moodiness, forgetfulness, foggy brain and shortness of breath. The University of Maryland Medical Centre claims to have conducted extensive research to support these beliefs.

When a woman is pregnant, the growing baby needs to take a lot of folic acid from her own supply. It is quiet common for pregnant women to develop a folic acid deficiency, and in serious cases can result in spinal bifida or brain damage for the child.

Diseases everyone has heard of such as Alzheimer’s, coronary disease, Down’s syndrome and osteoporosis are all connected to folic acid deficiency. This is because it can result in razing homocysteine (an amino acid) levels, which can be avoided by taking a vitamin b12 supplement

If you want to avoid problems developing from a folic acid deficiency, you need to have a good look at your diet and consider a good vitamin B supplement. Vegetables like asparagus, beetroot, beef liver, whole grains, root vegetables and soy beans are high in folic acid. When you choose your vitamin B supplement find one that offers the full range of B’s so you cover all your bases.

Of all the B vitamins, folic acid is the one people are mostly lacking. Taking a vitamin B supplement can help you avoid problems with appetite, growth, breathing and learning to name a few. Folic acid is detrimental during pregnancy to avoid the baby being born with problems like spinal bifida or Down syndrome. When you purchase a vitamin B product, make sure it is a complete complex that has all the types of b vitamins.
